Praised for his “expansive and fervent” style (Musical America) and “superb phrasing” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), cellist Thomas Barth enjoys a varied career as a chamber and orchestral musician. He performs frequently with groups including the Handel and Haydn Society, Glissando Chamber Series, A Far Cry, Emmanuel Music, Skylark Vocal Ensemble, Boston Baroque, and ChamberQUEER. Thomas is both at home performing at leading arts venues–including Carnegie Hall and the Ravinia Festival in recent seasons–and passionate about bringing thoughtful musical programming to wide audiences through performances at schools, farms, and community centers throughout North America and Europe. His theater credits include the 2022 Broadway revival of 1776 and world premiere productions of Real Women Have Curves and Gatsby: An American Myth at the American Repertory Theater.

Thomas holds a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory, where he was a recipient of the Gregor Piatagorsky Memorial Scholarship, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan as a Kalamazoo Promise Scholar. He is constantly grateful for his musical mentors (who include Richard Aaron and Lluis Claret among many others) and hopes to share his love of the cello through both performance and teaching. Thomas maintains regular yoga and meditation practices and is interested in the connection between mindfulness, music, and movement. He lives in Somerville, MA with his beagle-lab mix, Trevor.
